Original title: Tisíce smrtí
Synopsis
The short documentary Thousands of Deaths explores the world of gamekeeping as a space of civilizational tradition burdened with fundamental ethical dilemmas. The story takes place in filmmaker Tereza's home village. Tereza engages in an introspective monologue about her relationship with nature, animals and her coming to terms with a tumorous disease, through empathizing with the fate of a hunted animal. Gamekeeper Jara faces the dilemma of killing what he loves. We follow their lives through gamekeeper duty, feeding game, at the shooting range, and during the village ball, as their encounters and conversations mutually shape their views on life, death, and their relationship with nature and themselves.
